If
your physician feels that you need further evaluation for a suspected
cardiac condition, you may be referred for diagnostic testing that
could indicate a need for open heart surgery. Upon your visit to
our group, you will meet with a cardiac surgeon who will fully explain
your condition and answer any questions you may have. The surgeons
work together closely as a team. They customarily assist each other
and are aided by PA's. The surgeons feel this practice increases
expertise in the operating room and enhances continuity of care.
Each patient is evaluated on an individual basis, and is assured
of receiving the benefits of an extensive pool of talent, including
cardiac anesthesiologists, cardiologists and PA's. All three of
the surgeons are involved with your care; ordinarily, two surgeons
will perform your surgery. The surgeons are in constant communication
with one another and your referring physician, resulting in acohesive
and systematic plan for care. The surgeons are all thoroughly trained
and experienced in the surgical treatment of congenital and acquired
adult conditions of the heart. In addition, they are trained to
diagnose and treat surgical conditions of the chest, the lungs,
the esophagus, and the major blood vessels of the body. They have
expertise in cancerous as well as non-cancerous conditions of the
chest. In addition, they are trained to deal with life threatening
injuries to the chest.
